The High Court in Kisumu as ordered for a recount of votes from three constituencies in the Siaya gubernatorial race.

Justice Aggrey Muchelule ruled on Tuesday that votes from Bondo, Rarieda and Gem constituencies be recounted starting Thursday morning.

Mr William Oduol had moved to court in a bid to overturn the declaration of Cornel Rasanga as the governor of Siaya.

Justice Muchelule in the meantime declined a request by the petitioner’s lawyer, Mr Dismas Wakla who had sought a recount of votes from all the constituencies in the county arguing that all of them had discrepancies.

Instead, Justice Muchelule ordered a recount in selected polling stations in two other constituencies.

Among the stations to be recounted include Awelo polling station in Alego Usonga and Nyasanda polling station in Ugunja constituency.

But Mr Wakla said that they were dissatisfied with the order and that they would be lodging an appeal so that all the votes cast in Ugunja, Alego Usonga and Ugenya are recounted in their bid to prove that there were election malpractices by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission which declared Mr Rasanga the winner instead of his client Mr Oduol.

Mr Rasanga’s Lawyer, Mr Stephen Kopot on the other hand said he would be moving back to court in a bid to stop the recount scheduled to start this morning.
