DEKHA IBRAHIM ABDI… was greatly respected for trying to bring peace to the warring clans in Wajir. Through her efforts Wajir Peace was born.

In 2005 Ms Abdi was named Kenyan Peace Builder of the Year and in 2007 she was awarded the Swedish Right Livelihood Award, often viewed as the alternative Nobel Peace Prize.

Ms Abdi, who won several other awards and Presidential commendations, died in road accident in July last year.

ABDULLAHI MOHAMED SHARAWE… from Wajir West is commissioner of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. He studied engineering in Russia and when he returned to Kenya he was posted to Wajir as water engineer.

In 1988 he was appointed managing director of Ewaso Ngiro North Development Authority and promoted to PS in the Ministry of Transport by President Moi. He became chairman of the Public Service Commission.

HUSSEIN IBRAHIM… was a career teacher who rose to head the teachers employing body, the Teachers’ Service Commission, retiring in November 2011 after heading the commission for more than 10 years.

ABDI OGLE... A colonial era chief who in 1949 was honoured by King George VI for his service to his government.

He is most remembered for establishing Wajir Secondary school in early 1950s as a primary from his hides and skins store. Among his many children were the late Ahmed Abdi Ogle, who became the first MP for Wajir South at independence. His other son, the late Noor Ogle also became MP in 1988.
