Short ’n’ decent

If you are going to wear a short dress, then it better be well made.

Short thingies have a way of looking cheap, based on the material used.

You want to pick one that flatters your body without looking as if it was picked from your small sister’s wardrobe.

Here’s how to go about it:

  • Shop smart for that little dress. You should be able to find one that can be worn in a number of different ways without looking overdone. Solid colours are advisable. That way you can throw on a bolero or a scarf, depending on the function.
  • Have your age in mind when you are getting that short dress. While you may want to look young and trendy, notice that the older you are, the more classic and low-cut your dress should be.
  • A-line dresses are more flattering than skin-tight ones.
  • If you are looking for something for a cocktail, try one with thin straps and a little shimmering.
  • Short dresses go well with stilettos, but embellished flats may also do the trick.
  • You may find it helpful to carry a clutch bag instead of a regular bag to complement your look.
  • If you’re going for an evening event, black opaque leggings could help you keep the cold at bay.
  • Before you leave the house, make sure that you are comfortable in what you’re wearing. The worst thing you can do to a gorgeous little dress is to pull it up as you walk along the city streets.
