Last week, Nairobi was under the spell of Jamaican songstress Alaine during the third annual Sepetuka concert organised by Homeboyz Radio.
There was hardly space to manoeuvre as a reported 12,000-strong crowd squeezed into the large dome at the Carnivore grounds to watch the “Rise in Love” star do what she does best.
But before she stepped on stage, the crowd was entertained by DJs Creme de la Creme, John, G Money and Rundy and Guss before Habida kicked off the live performances with her first live gig since giving birth a few months ago.
Wyre was also present and his song “Uprising” was apt for the reggae crowd.
Stella Mwangi, aka, STL, flew in from her base in Norway and the crowd was ecstatic when she stepped on stage.
One of the best moments was when she brought out rapper Kantai for the song “Happy” and the deafening screams from the fans were enough to let Kantai know he is missed.
The organisers did a commendable job getting the event to run smoothly from start to finish. The security, led by Pascal, were at hand to control the highly charged crowd and any situation that risked getting out of control.
Alaine stepped on stage at 1 a.m. and to say the fans were overjoyed to finally see the star would be a major understatement. She kept the crowd entertained from the second she stepped on stage up to the time she belted out her last two hours later.
The fans were singing along to her songs and she had to pause several times to let them sing, something that overwhelmed her.
Meanwhile in Juba, the capital of Southern Sudan, the land’s most beautiful girls graced the catwalk at Nyakuron grounds, during the preliminaries of Miss Malaika Southern Sudan.
And they went on stage in style, with lots of entertainment from local comedians, musicians and traditional dancers.
Miraya FM radio presenter Maal Maker, assisted by two beautiful ladies, took the microphones and entertained the audience till late.
Top Southern Sudanese artiste, Lam, kept the programme moving, assisted by Evans Maendeh and Jack Odongo, each of them managing the event from different angles.
And for the first time ever, Miss Malaika went digital by allowing the audience to SMS the names of their favourite contestants as the event went on. Out of the 22 girls who went on stage, only 15 were shortlisted.
The 15 will battle it out for the crown on December 4 during the finals.
