Celebrating fashion icon Marilyn Monroe

To say that I am a massive Marilyn Monroe fan would be an understatement.
Born Norma Jeane Mortenson and later changing her name to Marilyn Monroe, she was an actress, model, and singer, who became a major sex symbol and fashion icon in the 50’s and early 60’s.
She died at 36 and 50 years later is still one of the most recognised fashion icons in the world. She dyed her hair blonde to become more successful as a model and later coupled this with red lips, a look we now instantly recognise and attribute to her. Not your everyday petite star, she was curvaceous, a fact that many women resonated with.
The 1950s bombshell has become a 21st-century pop culture phenomenon. Flip through a celebrity magazine and you are bound to see a number of starlets or pop singers channeling those platinum locks, the bright red lips, moist and slightly parted, and that joyously, almost defiantly curvy figure, sheathed in something skin-tight and glamorous.
Gwen Stefani totally replicated the blonde hair and red lips for her everyday look and is rarely seen without them, Mariah in the video her song “I Still Believe” from when Monroe performed for American marines in Korea, Scarlet Johansson in a Dolce & Gabbana campaign, Charlize for Dior and of course Madonna recreating the scene from “Diamonds are A Girl’s Best Friend” from the “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” movie for her Material Girl music video and most recently Blake Lively in the Gossip Girl series.
Now maybe you will be inspired too.
Channel your inner Marilyn Monroe fashion icon look by first embracing the gorgeous female you are. Find a shade of red lipstick to match your skin tone that can be worn both during the day and night. Thanks to Miss Monroe, red lipstick instantly screams bombshell.
Couple that with several coats of black mascara and a thin strip of liquid liner for a night out. Add to that some form fitting dresses like pencil skirts, off the shoulder blouses and sweetheart necklines. The final and most important piece, a blonde retro do!
You don’t have to colour your hair, a wig or weave will do for your Marilyn moment provided they are done really well and match your skin tone.
I leave you now with some Marilyn Monroe quotes I love!
“I don’t mind living in a man’s world as long as I can be a woman in it”, “I don’t know who invented high heels, but all women owe him a lot” and my favourite “Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world.”
Have a blessed week beautiful people!
