The African Union has said it is satisfied and proud of the Kenyan people for conducting a peaceful and smooth referendum.
“The successful conduct of the referendum marks a further step in the consolidation of democratic institutions and rule of law in Kenya," said AU chairman Jean Ping Friday.
“It also bears testimony to the maturity of the Kenyan people and the commitment of all stakeholders to a free, air and transparent electoral process.”
Mr Ping also congratulated the coalition government for overseeing the attainment of a new Constitution
He urged the government to speed up the implementation of Agenda 4 reforms as agreed during the Kenya National Dialogue and Reconciliation Process, which was facilitated by the Panel of Eminent African Personalities.
The Panel was mandated by the African Union.
Mr Ping said the AU will stand with Kenyans and its government in the implementation process of the new Constitution.
