Cleric alleges Al-Shabaab recruiting Kenyan youth

Muslims in Mombasa at protest outside Sakina mosque after Friday afternoon prayers. They condemned Israel aggression that led to the bombing of the Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem last week. They converged outside the mosque and were addressed by the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya [CIPK] organising secretary Sheikh Mohamed Khalifa.

A senior cleric has alleged that hundreds of youth from North Eastern province are being recruited to join the fight between the Somalia government and two warring Islamist groups.

Sheikh Mohammed Idriss said the government is behind recruitment being conducted by Somalia government despite refuting the claims two days ago.

Addressing faithful in Masjid Sakina Mombasa, Sheikh Idriss claimed the Al-Shabaab and Hizbul Islam fighters are enlisting Kenya youth in the camps through well-connected agents.

He said the militants mostly target jobless Somalia youth in Muslim-dominated regions in the country while those recruited for Somalia government are being enticed with money to join training.

“Youths are being recruited to fight in Somalia with the knowledge of the government. As usual, it denied yesterday (Thursday) just like when it deported our brothers to Ethiopia on pretext of being terrorists only for the truth to be known later,” he said.

Sheikh Idriss cautioned Muslims youth against being lured to fight in Somalia saying the war has nothing to do with religion.

Meanwhile hundreds of angry Muslims in Mombasa set ablaze Israel flags while protesting against the country’s military forces aggression on al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

The mosque has been turned into a battlefield since last month when more than 200 Jewish extremists went inside the holy site, allegedly to perform religious rituals.

The Muslims condemned Israeli siege imposed on al-Aqsa Mosque and called for massive worldwide condemnation against the action that has forced millions of Muslims from paying homage to the holy mosque.

Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) Organizing Secretary Sheikh Mohammed Khalifa lashed at United Nations for allowing Israel to violate Palestine’s fundamental rights to worship in the second most holy mosque in the world.

The Muslims conducted the protest outside Sakina Mosque, where they called upon the international community to end Israeli violations and destruction of Islamic holy sites.
