Kenya's first military recruitment under new law begins Monday

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) is one of the most common causes of SADS. Abnormally enlarged heart muscles characterise this condition. HCM is most commonly a result of genetic mutation. Unlike in body-building, where larger muscles may mean greater strength, when the heart muscles are abnormally large, the heart malfunctions when exposed to stress, such as exercise.

The national military recruitment drive will be launched on Monday, the Ministry of Defence has announced.

A statement from the ministry stated that the launch will be presided over by the Vice Chief of General Staff Lt Gen Julius Karangi at the Defence headquarters officers' mess on Monday, September 13, beginning 2pm.

“The aim of the exercise is to recruit eligible members of the public to join the constabulary, servicemen and women of the Kenya Army, Kenya Air Force and the Kenya Navy,” Bogita Ongeri, the assistant director for public communications in the ministry said in a statement.

This is the first recruitment drive under the new constitution which requires the Defence forces to reflect the regional and ethnic diversity of the people of Kenya in Article 241(4).

Past recruitment exercises have often been marred by myriad flaws including claims of bribery, political interference, and unequal distribution of slots across districts and favouritism. They have also been marked with huge turnouts of many unemployed Kenyan youths.
