Family and friends Thursday gathered for a memorial service of Alex Mwaura, who was killed on the eve of his wedding.

The service was held at ACK St Paul’s Kirigiti, Kiambu, where he was to marry Ms Maureen Nduta last Saturday.

A sombre mood engulfed the congregation as friends and relatives paid tribute to Alex, who was shot at Ruthimiti, Kikuyu.

He was described as polite and humorous. “He always made everybody laugh and was a hard working son whom we had a lot of hope in but today we are talking of someone who is far, far, and far away from us,” said his father, Mr Zachary Mwaura.

Former defence minister Njenga Karume appealed to the government to solve the murder puzzle.

“It’s a shocking incident that has snatched a very hardworking man who had a bright future. I urge the government to investigate the matter and establish who are the killers and what was the motive,” Mr Karume said.

Planning and Vision 2030 assistant minister Peter Kenneth said the high rate of crime in the country was alarming.

He said many cases of violent robberies and attacks had been reported, but few suspects arrested.

He called on the security agencies to crack down on the criminals to ensure Kenyans live without fear.

Until his death, Alex was an information security officer with the Cooperative Bank.

He will be buried on Friday at Mwagu village in Gatanga. The young man was killed while dropping his fiancee at her parents’ home on Friday night.

The woman lost two teeth and sustained other injuries in the attack.

The gangsters did not steal anything from them.
