Women, especially those in rural areas, will be the biggest beneficiaries of the new Constitution Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has said.

Mr Musyoka said the women bear the biggest burden in providing livelihoods for their families a task that will be lessened by devolution of resources to the regions and lower units.

He said at the national level, women will have better representation in parliament, as well as being given more consideration in employment in the public service.

The Vice President was speaking Friday during a fundraiser to buy a school bus for Waita Secondary School at Waita market in Mwingi North constituency.

Mr Musyoka said county governments will be able to fasttrack the exploitation of natural resources in their regions for the benefit of locals.

“The Mui basin which is rich in coal deposits will attract investment in the Kitui county once its mining begins and create job opportunities,” he said.

Over two million shillings was raised towards the purchase of the school bus with the Vice President giving a personal donation of Sh300,000.
