The ceremony, which was witnessed by Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka, is a culmination of talks initiated by the provincial administration and religious organisations.

Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka on Wednesday said he has written to the Mzalendo Kibunjia-led National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) seeking to outlaw the use of the KKK word, saying it amounts to hate speech.

The VP urged the NCIC to outlaw the use of the political terminology “KKK Alliance” among Kenyans and particularly in some sections of the media.

In the letter addressed to NCIC Chairman Dr Mzalendo Kibunjia titled 'Incessant Contravention of the NCI Act', Mr Musyoka said the KKK tag promoted ethnicism and isolation contrary to the NCI Act, 2008.

“The KKK caricature that now dominates the media and some public pronouncements is designed to depict ethnic isolationism whereby the three communities are set against the rest of Kenya’s ethnic groups,” he added.

While addressing a Press conference in his Jogoo House office, the VP added that KKK threatens at once to foment and incite ethnic hatred among other communities.

The tag KKK allegedly refers to an alliance of politicians from Kikuyu, Kalenjin and Kamba ethnic groups, though MPs backing the alliance have been fighting off claims that they had come together as an ethnic grouping.
