Mr Wycliffe Okelo (inset), the owner of the dark Mercedes Benz, denied any wrongdoing, saying he saw the body on the road and swerved to avoid it. He also denied being at the party attended by Ms Mercy Keino and Juja MP William Kabogo.

The owner of the Mercedes allegedly used to dump Mercy Keino’s body surrendered to the police on Monday. (READ: Motorist in girl’s death mystery gives himself up)

But more details have emerged about Mr Wycliffe Okello Lugwiri.

On September 9, 2003, he was sentenced to 9 years in jail for trying to defraud various businessmen while posing as a former president’s aide, Mr Alfred Getonga.

The businessmen told the court that Mr Lugwiri lied about having been sent to receive money from them claiming it was meant for a fundraising project.

Mr Lugwiri was sentenced to 9 years but was to serve for only three since the sentences were to run concurrently.

Further details indicate that he has been in and out of the courts over impersonation and fraud with his surname varying between ‘Lugwiri’ and ‘Lungwili.’

In October 30, 2003, a Kibera law court sentenced him to two years in prison for trying to defraud a former Kenya Pipeline Manager Ezekiel Komen of Sh20,000.

The then Chief Magistrate Rosemelle Mutoka found him guilty but later rescinded her judgment after Mr Lugwiri appealed, arguing that the complainant never saw him in person.

He also had a case where he was charged with trying to defraud Devki Steel Mills manager, Mr Raval Guru, of Sh300,000.

Mr Guru had initially given him Sh25,000 after which he reported the incident to the police.
