Three people are missing while close to 40 families have been left homeless in Nakuru town after their homes were swept by raging floods on Saturday night.

Residents of the sprawling Rhoda slums now live in fear of contracting water-borne diseases as they come into terms with the calamity.

The area is prone to flooding because its a lowland region and normally receives overflowing water being discharged from the upper sections of Menengai crater.

The residents have appealed for humanitarian assistance to help the displaced families rebuild their shattered lives.

Nakuru Municipal Council had previously pledged to create buffer zones for residents to avoid future disasters.
