The National Vision Party (NVP) is among political parties that pitched tent in the North Rift region Saturday as vote hunting intensified ahead of the next General Election.

Former cabinet minister Nicholas Biwott led supporters in opening office in Iten town, his political backyard, and later held a rally at Iten sports ground urging residents to promote peace.

He was accompanied by former MPs from the North Rift and the South Rift region, civic leaders and aspirants who have expressed interest in vying for various elective posts through the party in the coming elections.

“As a party, we shall always advocate for peace and the rights of all in the society and those concerned with violence are not welcomed,” said Mr Biwott who has declared his intention to vie for the post of senator in the Elgeyo-Marakwet County.

Socio-economic development

He said NVP prioritized harmonious relationship among Kenyans for the socio-economic development of the country.

Former MPs Bishop Daniel Tanui (Kipkelion) Samuel Moroto (Kapenguria) and John Marirmoi (Marakwet East) are some of the leaders who accompanied Mr Biwott during the occasion.

He said NVP agenda is to tackle high level of poverty by empowering the poor and creating jobs for the youths apart from promoting peace and unity.
