At least five people were injured on Wednesday evening following a twin explosion at a shopping mall in Wajir.

The explosion occurred at around 7:45pm.

Area OCPD James Mutungi told the Nation that the injured had been taken to Wajir District Hospital to be treated for “minor injuries.”

The five were customers at the Dubai Shopping Mall. The second explosion occurred just about 400 metres away from the shop.

“Our bomb experts are currently on the ground to check the type of explosive device. We have also sent in our officers to secure the area,” said area OCPD James Mutungi.

The incident comes just three weeks after 17 people were killed in a neighbouring county of Garissa after gunmen threw grenades at two churches before spraying worshippers with bullets.
