Police have been asked to enforce the new traffic laws during this festive season to minimise loss of lives through road accidents.

In his goodwill Christmas message to Kenya, President Kibaki asked motorists to exercise caution on the roads as they ferry passengers.

He also urged Christians to continue praying for a peaceful nation as they congregate to various places of worship.

“As you congregate in various places of worship, I urge you all to continue praying for our nation. Let us also exercise extreme caution on our roads as we travel to various parts of the country this festive season” he said.

He also asked Kenyans to pray for members of the security forces who are performing various duties within and outside the borders.

He reminded Christians that the spirit of Christmas was that of peace, love and goodwill and therefore called on them to make an effort in the spirit of the season to extend a helping hand to the needy in society.

“It is the time of giving and sharing. May you spread love to all those you meet and let everyone feel the love of Christ,” he said.

Kibaki said that the true essence of Christmas is the celebration of the wondrous love of God as demonstrated by sending his only son, Jesus Christ to save the world by suffering and dying on the cross.

He emphasised that Christmas prompts Christians to acknowledge God’s love and goodness to mankind and said it was befitting to give thanks to God for preserving lives and providing for needs according to his immeasurable riches in glory.
