However, Mr Hassan was not in the car as police deflated two tyres to immobilise the vehicle.

Four AP officer are said to have been deployed from Security of Government Buildings (SGB) Uhuru camp as a reinforcement to their two colleagues guarding the residence of Mr Hassan.

The two APs officers had requested for the reinforcement after learning of an impending attack on Mr Hassan's residence.

The Hardy police officers who were also aware of the impending attack laid an ambush near Mr Hassan's residence, which is near Swara Restaurant.

The four AP officers arrived in Hardy at around midnight in an official car.

Police say the AP officers ignored their orders to stop and identify themselves but instead sped-off prompting them to shoot at the vehicle.

Police also said they pursued the AP officers to Total Petrol Station in Karen, where they found the car abandoned.

Later, 10 AP officers led by a chief inspector emerged and identified themselves.
