In Summary
- Two groups fought over grazing pasture as drought continued to hit most parts of the area.
- Five pastoralists are feared dead while six police reservists died, area councillor Ali Aden said.
“We cannot tell the exact people who have been killed following the raid. All that we know is that 11 people were injured and some have been admitted at Lodwar District Hospital,” Mr Noor said.
He said security personnel led by the Provincial Police Officer (PPO) Joseph Ashimalla were leading an operation to recover the stolen animals.
He, however, said no recoveries had been made in the operation involving the General Service Unit personnel, the Anti-Stock Theft Unit, Administration Police regular and Kenya Police Reservists.
On Sunday, the area MP Josphat Nanok said he had informed the minister for Internal Security George Saitoti but accused him of taking the issue casually.
“I have told him that the officers who are on the ground are ill-equipped but he seems to be taking his sweet time,” he said.
