A religious cult angle is emerging in the serial killings and rape, accompanied by drinking of human blood in Naivasha.
On Thursday, police interviewed a bishop on suspicion the suspected rapist often delivered human blood and body organs to his church.
As he was being locked up, the bishop (name withheld) told the Nation: “The man who has been drinking blood in Kihoto brought police to my house saying he had been supplying blood to us.”
The suspect behind the bizarre affinity for human blood and sexual extremity lived in Kihoto estate.
According to police officers, the bishop will be held in custody since his house had been mentioned in investigations into the killing of a woman found buried in a shallow grave in the suspect’s house.
Breasts missing
The body found on Tuesday had the tongue and breasts missing. The eyes had been gouged out.
Police are looking for the woman’s sister, said to be living with street families, according to a confession to detectives.
There was uproar in Naivasha Town Thursday as residents mobbed the church headed by the bishop, threatening to demolish it. “I’ve known this suspect for some time because he is one of the street boys I used to feed at my church. I also helped them with money to visit hospital or whenever one needed to be circumcised,” said the bishop.
Armed policemen were deployed to prevent the mob from storming the church.
The bishop went on as police led him to the cells: “I’ve never drunk anybody’s blood, not even my own.”
Although detectives and residents suspect the bizarre incidents have been happening for a long time, the matter was revealed only on Friday.
A 13-year-old girl, and a woman aged 25 years were rescued from the killer’s den, after police were alerted by neighbours who heard a scream. One was unconscious when they were taken to the hospital.
Later arrested
The suspect was away at the time of police raid, but was later arrested as he walked to hospital to check on his victims.
Using earth movers, police visited the den on Wednesday and flattened the house as well as adjacent ones. They dug deep into the soil, looking for bodies residents claimed were buried there.
The residents had threatened to bring the town to a standstill on claims the suspect had raped, tortured and killed half a dozen women.
Police failed to unearth evidence of multiple killings, but found women’s clothes in the house, including a local primary schoolgirl’s uniform.
