“It was all politics, I was showing political ambitions already, so some people were unhappy, and involved the department staff to embarrass me,” Ms Ndeti-Oduwale recalled.

Disappointed by the turn of events, Henry flew back to the UK and went straight to Scotland Yard, where he reported his ordeal at the hands of Kenyan authorities. “In the UK, if your character is in doubt by outsiders, one is at liberty to pay Scotland Yard to investigate, and that’s exactly what happened,” she added.

After months of investigations, the Scotland Yard wrote a letter clearing her husband of any illegal deals. The couple later received an apology letter from the CID and the National Security Intelligence Service for the embarrassment.

As he received his bride from her father Mzee Peter Nzuki Ndeti, 93, and her uncle Prof Kivuto Ndeti, Mr Oduwale said the ceremony was his happiest moment.

“When we had our church wedding, few relatives from Wavinya’s side could attend. Today, I had a whole clan to witness this occasion. It’s marvellous and it has wiped out the events that threatened the ceremony five years ago”, he said.

The couple has three children, with the eldest a Form One student at Strathmore School in Nairobi.

In the 21st century, I believe most marriages are based on love and this one is no exception. So i think regardless of national origin and or color people should freely intermarry. The question rather is, where will the couples if Kenya then the husband will be naturalized and if Nigeria, the wife will have to give-up her Kenyan citizen and the rights that come a long with it.

so many of the comments so far are really out of touch with life, who dictates who one should or not get married too? This two met while they were students, circumstances as i have come to believe determine who one marries. And by the way, what so good marrying a woman/man from ur own community, don't we have divorces, murders, adultery and all othe evils therein? Therefor it doesn't matter, wiseup you lot!
