Roads in N.Rift to be improved

The government will improve the communication network in the North Rift region to link it up with the rest of Kenya and improve security, Vice- President Kalonzo Musyoka said on Saturday.
Mr Musyoka regretted the poor infrastructure in the area, such as good roads and telecommunications, which he said was a hindrance to faster development.
“We will ensure that wananchi (citizens) in this region enjoy a good road network, mobile telephony and access to television services like other Kenyans,” Mr Musyoka said, adding that, as the world was adopting ICT, no part of the country should be left behind.
The Vice-President was speaking at Konyao Secondary School in Kacheliba constituency, North Pokot, district, during the homecoming ceremony for the area MP and Minister for Information and Communications, Mr Samuel Poghisio.
He urged Pokot leaders to work together to help the community fight poverty and fast-track development in the area.
The Vice-President welcomed Mr Poghisio’s declaration to gun for the ODM-Kenya ticket for the 2012 presidential elections.
Mr Musyoka also took the occasion to congratulate athlete Pamela Jelimo for winning the IAAF golden league jackpot of $1million.
