The Kenya family of the US Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama is now asking for police protection after an attempted robbery in their Siaya home.
Obama’s grandmother, Mama Sarah Obama said that the robbers struck in the night, broke the kitchen door and attempted to remove a solar panel from the roof of the main house.
She said: “I only realised that something had gone wrong when I went to make breakfast in the morning. I did not hear anything in the night as it was raining”.
She said that although the incident appeared like an ordinary robbery, the family was not taking chances with their security especially given that their grandson was gunning for the US presidency.
“I do not understand the motive of the thieves, since nothing has been stolen from the kitchen.”
She now fears for her life and that of her family and added that police need to provide security to the family.
Recently, the family askedd the Siaya Police Station to provide security but their request has so far not been granted.
On Wednesday, the Siaya police boss Mr Johnston Okasida and the District Commissioner Mr Boaz Cherutich visited the home and promised to intensify police patrols.

Every kenyan need state protection and when a kenyan citizen is feeling some kind of increased secerity in the region where they live, its not wrong to ask for more police presence. Its wrong to expect Obama's family to hire their own security detail when the police is there to protect every kenyan. Let the government provide her with security
-
this is shameful, with all the money flowing from USA, these people can hire security of their own? how much does it cost a month to pay the private security, shame of Jokogelo.
-
I think it will be a good idea to provide security at least even to Barrack's granny since if something happened to her noww,it would be such a distraction to the campaigns. We have a lot of idle security people guarding politicians goats all over the place and this is the least that our government can do.Over to you Raila.
