A task force was formed on Wednesday to investigate complaints by matatu (public service vehicles) operators of alleged corruption and harassment by Kenya's traffic police officers.

Internal Security minister George Saitoti formed the team that will be led by his permanent secretary, Mr Francis Kimemia.

The taskforce includes the Attorney-General, Transport and Local Government PSs, Nairobi Town Clerk, the Commissioner of Police, the Traffic Commandant and 11 matatu industry representatives.

Assess issues

The joint committee will investigate allegations of corruption against the police and assess all the issues raised by the Matatu Welfare Association.

It will also make recommendations that will ensure that all stakeholders work in harmony.

The commissioner of police was instructed to take appropriate action against any officer who may have engaged in corrupt activities.

The government promised to crack down on illegal gangs who extort money from matatu operators.

Kenyan's, next time we vote DONOT vote in these people who have no idea on how to run the country. The days of commissions and task forces are long gone and these people do not seem to realize that. They do not get it. Next time we vote, vote for people who will serve the country and the people of Kenya and people who are serious about what they are doing. Saitoti should not even be in the govt. at this time. Forming another task force is not only a time wasting idea, but also a show of his competence!

stop wasting our money and time, there is nothing to investigate here, at this pace we might as well set up a team to investigate pick pockets in the city

Saitoti needs to use excutive powers like Michuki and not form USELESS comissions. If its plicy or mechanisms of Traffic police, TLB and mungiki extortions, the best advise is in papers by KIPPRA!What you need to do Bw Minister is to appoint APs in charge of traffic while traffic police remnants join AP ranks! you need radical surgery as this is a deep widespread cancerous malignant tumour not kid glove shady committees! But you still have Moi's comittee habits eg 1990s devil worship when you were VP.Kenya needs action not useless meetings!

There is nothing to investigate! Just act! Traffic police have been primarily interested in collecting toll from the matatus! What is there to investigate? Another waste of time and resources.
