They should not have been given the letters in the first place because such riparian land belongs to the government.
Agriculture
Those targeted are houses and business premises within the 30-metre riparian region on either side of the rivers. They include Jua Kali garages, car wash sites, markets, timber yards and agriculture plots.
In October, Nema had to shelve a plan to have the City Council issue quit notices to garage owners around the Globe Cinema area.
They feared that involving the council would result in forceful eviction, making the rehabilitation programme unpopular with the public.
The rehabilitation programme covers Ngong, Nairobi and Mathare rivers.

Most people living or working from around the river banks literally allocated themselves those pieces of land. They strictly should not be compensated save for very few, otherwise every Kenyan will be compensated. We simply want a clean Env. Therefore NEMA and Government please go ahead without fear or favour to clean it.

Kenyans, please listen!we cannot compromise with issues pertaining to the environment. Much as we need to survive, how would we cope if in 10years time there is nothing to survive on? This is a commonsense issue! We are sentencing the future of Kenya to eternal doom without due consideration!

Nairobi residents should be more conciderate of their environment before thier own affiliations. The nairobi river has been dirtified for long and now it is the time for the governement and NEMA to put this to a stop. if we destroy nature, nature will destroy us.
