The PM said: “At one of our NESC meetings, he presented a short video that left every participant in no doubt that we are sitting on a time bomb if we don’t address the issue of youth unemployment.”

The VP described Mr Murugu as a brilliant and visionary administrator with a big role in Vision 2030’s implementation.

Mr Murugu, an alumnus of Starehe Boys’ Centre in Nairobi, has a long and varied engagement with youth organisations and issues.

He served in a voluntary capacity as an executive committee member of the President’s Award Scheme under which he is also a Gold Award holder.

Before his appointment to the Youth ministry, Mr Murugu was the regional director of the World Scout Bureau based at the Africa Regional Office in Nairobi and had the responsibility of developing and expanding scouting in 46 countries in Africa.

On leaving Starehe, Mr Murugu joined the University of Nairobi where he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Business Administration. He was also a member of the UK Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.

After university, he joined the Kenya Navy where, after a career that included command at sea and United Nations peacekeeping duties in Yugoslavia, he retired in 1996 with the rank of major.

He was awarded the Head of State Commendation medal for professional excellence while in the Navy.

A very sad loss for Kenya and the youth who may have caused his death despite working so hard for them. Another of Kenya's visionary people life cut short. Pole to Bwana Murugu's family.

Shame on these gun totting thugs. Its a pity that the youth could be the victims, but what should be addressed at this point is how to deal with this soaring insecurity. Some of us are outside, and would not wish to be associated with this kind of life. Can this be a wakeup call to the Police who usually have leads to hunt these perpetrators or peoples lives? RIP Murugu, we loved you.

The Youth Entreprise fund has only benefited the corrupt and the mighty. Ask the youth and they will tell you that they have not seen any benefits. Lets call a spanner a spanner and stop the hypocrisy of revernece to the dead. There was nothing to show of the works of this man. He might have talked alot, but the youty never benefited! The youth are not missing him! It is however sad for the family and friends. Sincere condolences to them. This is a reaction to this hypocritical story of customarily praising the dead.

nothing beats the pain of losing such a dedicated leader to an assassin's bullet. i personally feel this great loss because this is one person i had the chance of meeting in life and never thought we would lose him so soon. without aportioning blame to our security forces and yet not condoning their laxity, i wish to pose this moral question, where are we headed as a nation? why are we killing and maiming our own? why won't the thugs just take away whatever they want and spare the lives? Oh God help us! Elijah, Nairobi.
