Kibaki names Kenya Truth Commission

What you need to know:

  • Mr Kiplagat will head TJRC that will, among other things, address Kenya’s historical injustices.
  • Injustices include: Land allocation, regional imbalances and negative ethnicity.

  • Members also include three international experts.

President Kibaki has appointed Bethuel Kiplagat to chair the Kenya Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission.

Mr Kiplagat will now head the nine-member team that will, among other things, address Kenya’s historical injustices.

Ms Betty Murungi has been named as the commission vice chairperson.

Other members include: Mr Tom Ojienda, Ms Margaret Wambui Ngugi Shava, Ms Tecla Namachanja and Major General (Rtd) Ahmed Sheikh Farah.

Ms Gertrude Chawatama (Zambia), Mr Berhanu Dinka (Ethiopia) and Mr Ronald Siye (US) will serve as international experts.

The injustices include: Land allocation, regional imbalances and negative ethnicity.

The TJRC will serve for a period of two years.
