  • Administrator warns outlawed Mungiki sect from collecting money from residents

A one-month ultimatum for people with illegal guns to surrender them was issued on Tuesday.

Rift Valley PC Osman Warfa issued the ultimatum during Kenyatta Day celebrations. Similar ultimatums were issued by DCs in the North Rift Valley.

Speaking during Kenyatta Day celebrations at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru, Mr Warfa said crime in the province had increased due to the proliferation of small arms.

“We want this province to be a region of choice when it comes to investment and this can only be possible when there is security,” he said.

Collecting taxes

He also warned members of the outlawed Mungiki sect to keep off the province saying their activities would not be condoned.

He blamed the sect of collecting illegal taxes from hard-working Kenyans. He said Mungiki was a criminal gang who were out to reap where they did not sow.

Mr Warfa cautioned parents and candidates for this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations of con men who were claiming that they had copies of the real examination papers.

Elsewhere, North Rift residents who own illegal fire arms have been asked to surrender them to the government.

Speaking in Kitale during Kenyatta day celebrations, Deputy PC Wilson Wanyanga said “Dumisha Amani 2” campaign has been organised by the government to mop up illegal arms to ensure that peace prevailed in the area.
