Sect leader’s priorities

Maina Njenga has strong opinions on various issues he said matter to him.
On his family
‘‘I want to spend time with my three children. My first priority will be to be baptised by a spiritually rich pastor. I want to undergo the full process of baptism and that is why I will not be baptised tomorrow (Sunday). Then I will organise a grand send-off for my wife, Virginia Nyakio, and three other family friends whose bodies are still lying at Lee Funeral Home. My friends are working to see how we can hold a fundraiser to offset a more than Sh5 million mortuary fee.”
On Raila Odinga
“I think he is a good leader. People kept telling me that I should not deal with him. But I always say what matters is brain not culture. He seems to advocate equal distribution of resources. That is what people want.”
On Bishop Wanjiru
“I respect her as a gifted and spiritually nourished preacher. I did not go to her as a Kikuyu or because she is in ODM. I wanted a preacher who would help me travel the religious path successfully. She is my sister.”
On his political ambitions
“I am not eyeing any seat. This is not the right time to do this. The youth in this country need to first be united before they can take on the old guard. A revolution will happen in this country and the youth will drive it. When the time comes, I will let the youth know what we should do.”
On Constitution making
“I do not advocate piecemeal reforms. I want an overhaul of the systems we have. It will protect us from the leaders we have. An arrogant leader can be tamed by a good constitution. But a bad system will never help people even when good people come in.”
