Woman to do community service for hate SMS
A mother of one will perform duties for free at a chief’s camp in Nairobi for sending abusive message to another woman.
Ms Regina Nyambura Muniu will do community work at Umoja Chief’s office for six months after she pleaded guilty to sending an offensive text message to Mary Stella Gathoni.
Under the Community Service Order, an offender performs duties such as construction or maintenance of public roads or roads of access, afforestation, and environmental conservation and enhancement works.
An offender may also be asked to work under projects for water conservation, maintenance work in public schools, hospitals and other public social service amenities and or perform work of any nature in a foster home or orphanage.
Professionals may be asked to render specialist or professional services in the community for the benefit of the community.
Ms Muniu first appeared before a Nairobi court last week and charged with sending the unprintable message on October 14. The single mother admitted the charge and chief magistrate Gilbert Mutembei ordered a report into her conduct.
And on Monday, the magistrate said the probation report was in her favour.
In mitigation last week, Ms Muniu told the court that the complainant’s husband had promised to marry her but she was later rejected “breaking” her heart.
After being rejected, she decided to send the message to Ms Gathoni.
