The Nation Media Group has made changes in its editorial department as part of reorganisation aimed at improving the quality of its products.
Mr Nick Wachira has been appointed managing editor of The EastAfrican. Mr Wachira, who has just returned from studies, was previously the managing editor of the Business Daily. He has a bachelor of arts degree and an MBA.
Mr Ali Zaidi, becomes the deputy managing editor of The East African.
Mr Joe Mbuthia becomes the production editor after serving as the provincial news and portal editor for the Coast region. He replaces Mr Kibe Kamunyu, who was recently appointed senior editor in charge of quality.
Mr Benjamin Ouma also moves from the post of provincial news editor for the North Rift to become deputy chief sub-editor of the Saturday Nation.
Similarly, Mr Patrick Mayoyo, who has been the Kisumu-based provincial news editor, becomes deputy news editor in Nairobi, while Mr Sammy Wambua becomes associate editor in charge of features.
Making the announcement, the editorial director, Mr Joseph Odindo, said the appointments were part of the strategy to reposition Nation products to meet market needs. “The changes go a long way to consolidate the excellent work done by our previous editorial director, Wangethi Mwangi,” he added.
The changes take effect on February 1. Others appointed are Mr Henry Owuor, who becomes the foreign and diplomatic editor, while Mr Bernard Namunane becomes chief political writer.
Mr David Maina becomes senior sub-editor in charge of editions. Ms Mary Wasike, previously editions editor, is now the revise editor while Mr Isaya Oduor becomes senior sub-editor responsible for overnight/advance pages.
Mr Samuel Siringi, who has been education editor, has been appointed assignments editor, while Mr Luke Mulunda takes up the position of business editor for the Daily Nation and Mr Muna Wahome business editor for the weekend editions.
These changes follow others made a few weeks ago, when Mr Ng’ang’a Mbugua was appointed chief sub-editor of the Daily Nation and Ms Catherine Wanyama his deputy. Mr Mbugua replaced Mr Tim Wanyonyi, who is now associate editor in charge of quality.
