40 mental patients escape from Mathari Hospital

Fourty mental patients are reported to have escaped from Mathari Mental Hospital Sunday evening prompting security officers to hunt them down.

The Starehe Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Samuel Kanampiu who spoke to the Nation said security officials have been mobilised to hunt them down.
No cases of violence have so far been reported as a result, Mr Kanampiu said.
The Nairobi based facility is a national referral hospital for psychiatry and the main teaching psychiatric hospital.
