An Administration Police officer on Thursday night shot a woman before turning the gun on himself in a domestic brawl at Nairobi's Embakasi area.

According to the residents of Fedha Estate in Embakasi, the couple left their house at 8pm while arguing before the officer took a gun from his jacket and shot the woman, then himself in full glare of the public.

“We could not make out what they were arguing about, but after a short while the officer took out a gun and shot his girlfriend on the head,” said Mr Duncan Otieno, a neighbour.

Witnesses said after shooting the girlfriend, the officer fired two shots in the air to disperse the crowd that had began gathering before pointing the gun on his chest and killed himself.

“After he fell down, we realised that the lady was still alive and writhing in pain from the gunshot wound she sustained around the jaw area,” said Ms Irene Mugo. “We rushed her to a local clinic.”

However, efforts to verify the status of the lady did not bear fruit as Nation was unable to trace the clinic the victim was admitted to.

Later, Police took away the body of the deceased officer but refused to issue a statement until investigations are conducted.

According to a neighbour who did not want to be identified, the couple had been in the relationship for two months.
