A Nairobi motorist was arrested Wednesday for shooting at another driver.

Mr Elly Owuor Obuya, a businessman in the city, was driving along Koinange Street when his vehicle was involved in a minor traffic accident with another vehicle at the junction of Kenyatta Avenue.

He got out of his car and produced a Ceska pistol and fired six rounds but only one bullet hit the other car on the driver’s door.

Another motorist escaped narrowly as only one of the shots hit his car but did not injure him.

Officers on patrol nearby rushed to the scene and disarmed him.

Mr Obuya told the Nation at the Central Police Station that he was driving from a night club in town at around 4am when the accident occurred.

He said he fired in self defence as the occupants of the other vehicle refused to get out.

Mr Obuya, a licensed firearm holder, was taken to hospital for toxicology tests.

Police said he would be arraigned in court on Thursday to face charges of misusing a firearm and driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Police said the pistol was still loaded with 9 rounds of ammunition when he was disarmed.
