A Baragoi civic leader and four chiefs were jointly charged before a Maralal Court with robbing and murdering 12 police officers during last Saturday’s bandit attack.

Councillor Lawrence Sabastian Lorunyei of Nachora civic ward with Baragoi division chiefs Jeremiah Ekurao, Amojong Lothuru, Christopher Epur Lokorachi and Ewoi Losike denied the charges when they appeared before Principal Magistrate Charles Ndegwa.

The charge against them stated that they robbed 12 police officers their G3 rifles with each costing Sh70,000 before killing them.

They are said to have committed the offense at Suguta Valley of Samburu County.

The accused who were not represented asked the court to release them on bond but the prosecution led by Inspector John Mugo opposed the application.

He told the court that the prosecution will bring more charges on the accused since investigations on the killings of security officers at Suguta Valley are still in progress.
“There are more than 42 police officers who were killed and we are still receiving more bodies,” Mr Mugo told the court.

The magistrate remanded the five at Maralal Police Station until November 26 when their case will be mentioned.
