Court orders teachers to report back to work Tuesday

Industrial court on Monday ordered teachers to report back to work on Tuesday by 8am effectively ending the strike which was on its second week. Read (Knut declares teachers strike)

Lady Justice Linet Ndolo also ordered the Cabinet Secretary, Labour to form a committee which will negotiate with the teachers on their demands and report the progress on July 15.

Last week, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) declared a nationwide strike over failure by government to pay allowances.

The union accused the government for failing to implement Legal Notice 534 of 1997 — that entitles teachers to hardship, special, house, medical and commuter allowances.
