The late Internal Security minister George Saitoti will be laid to rest in his Kitengela farm Saturday.

A high powered government delegation led by President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga is among thousands who will pay their last respects.

The late minister has been eulogised as a “hero, patriot, team player and a voice of reason” during a requiem mass at the Holy Family Basilica, Nairobi Friday.

"As a political leader, the late Saitoti distinguished himself as a patriot who shunned controversy and who served the country in a wide range of capacities and competencies," said President Kibaki.

"In the various capacities in which he served as political leader, the late Saitoti has distinguished himself as a performer and an accomplished administrator and manager."

Prime Minister Raila Odinga said the late minister distinguished himself as a true leader and was very humble.

"Despite being vice president for 13 years, he found no difficulty in serving in other capacities be it as a cabinet minister," he said.

Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka said the late Prof Saitoti was the voice of reason in government ranks.

House Speaker Kenneth Marende told mourners he "felt a heavy sense of loss".

His widow, Margaret Saitoti, said she had "lost a friend, husband and father".

"Your love will always remain in our hearts forever," she said through a friend.
