Business was disrupted at Nairobi’s City Hall after a mysterious fire broke out in one of its wings Thursday.

Fire fighters and personnel from Kenya Power were called in to put out the fire that originated from the building's basement.

Town Clerk Philip Kisia told reporters that a basement transformer burst into flames due to an overload but the fire was immediately contained and no one was injured.

"We cannot, however, establish the immediate extent of the damage," he said.

Mr Kisia also suspended activities at City Hall especially those at the cash office.

He said services such as payment of parking fees and single business permits will resume Friday.
