Firm in ISO controversy disowned

The German certification firm linked to the City Council of Nairobi’s ISO saga has said that the local affiliate, DQS-Kenya, is using its name illegally.

DQS-Germany on Wednesday said it had no local associate and has not permitted anyone to use its name in Kenya.

The company’s regional coordinator for international business development Tauni Aul told the Nation it had initially licensed DQS-Kenya but later terminated the deal.

Use of name stopped

“DQS Holding GmbH had a contract with DQS Kenya Ltd. This contract was cancelled on May 24th for confidential reasons. The name DQS Kenya Ltd should not be used in that market,” she said from Frankfurt, Germany.

Ms Aul further stated that after the cancellation of the license, the City Council no longer holds a valid ISO certificate.

DQS-Kenya refused to comment on the issue when contacted saying they would do so later. (READ: Kisia: Firm to blame for fake ISO award)

However, an administrative manager who requested anonymity said the firm has been told not to use the name.

“But I cannot tell you what we are going to do because I am not the right person to do so,” the manager said.
