Five fishermen from the Comoros die in storm

Five Comoros fishermen died in the high seas after their fishing boat was hit by a storm in Kenyan waters.
The whereabouts of five others are are unknown and they are feared to also have died. Two of the victims were rescued alive but one later died.
One body was recovered three days ago, while two others were found off Rasi and Kanagoni shores on Monday.
Marine police on Monday said the boat, carrying 12 fishermen from the Comoros Islands, capsized in strong winds last Wednesday and sank near Robinson Island.
Local fishermen also said they recovered one body on the Rasi shores two days ago.
The chairman of Malindi Fishermen Association, Mr Omar Msham, said of the two victims rescued alive one died at Malindi District Hospital.
“Of the two rescued fishermen, one was in bad condition and was rushed to Malindi District Hospital, where he died,” said Mr Msham.
The second one was treated at the San Marco Space Agency Dispensary in Ngomeni and discharged, he added.
Another fisherman, Mr Charo Chea, said when the victims’ boat was hit by waves, four of the foreigners died on the spot.
“The one rescued told us that their colleagues threw the bodies into the ocean,” said Mr Chea.
On Monday, a police vehicle was stranded at Ngomeni port when it attempted to travel to Rasi, 8km south of Ngomeni, to collect one of the bodies.
Area deputy police boss Willy Simba said their vehicle was not a four-wheel drive and could not travel to Rasi as the route is sandy.
