Former Nairobi City Council Town Clerk Roba Duba will contest the Moyale parliamentary seat in a United Democratic Front (UDF) ticket.

Mr Duba who resigned last week to join politics said he believed the party was the right vehicle to help Kenyans fight the numerous challenges facing them.

"I have worked with UDF’s presidential candidate Musalia Mudavadi when he was the minister for Local Government and I can assure you he is the right person for us,” Mr Duba said Tuesday when he officially joined the party at the UDF headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi.

UDF also received over a dozen aspirants from across the country who will run on the party for various political posts in the next elections.

Former Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala officially joined the party alongside former National Bank Managing Director Reuben Marambii and were received by the party leader Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi.

Mr Marambii is expected to run for the governorship of Meru County.

“We are ready to take over the next government that is why we are casting the net wider. These new members are solid candidates who will make our party stronger,” Mr Mudavadi said.

Solid support

Mr Duba was accompanied by a number of supporters from Moyale who he said had defected from other parties and were now solidly supporting Mr Mudavadi’s bid for presidency.

Mr Wanjala, who was defeated by ODM's Ababu Namwamba in the 2007 elections, said he chose the party because it was “the only one that has united Kenyans and would continuing doing so after the elections".

The former legislator who had courted Eugene Wamalwa’s New Ford Kenya before picking UDF urged voters to elect Mr Mudavadi as the fourth president of Kenya.

The aspirants were presented party cards by UDF’s chairman Hassan Osman.

Other new recruits were parliamentary aspirants Dr Ekuru Kidalio (Turkana South), Morris Makhanu (Kanduyi), Dr Nelson Makanda (Matungu), Catherine Kanana (Roysambu), Nelson Kaimenyi (Imenti Central) Anthony Kirui (Chepalungu) and Dismus Baraza (Kimilili).

Ikolomani MP Bonny Khalwale propped up Mr Mudavadi’s bid saying he was the only genuine candidate, terming other presidential aspiring “fake candidates.”
