A GSU officer attached to a senior Israeli envoy was shot dead on Wednesday night by three suspected thugs in Muthangari, Nairobi while conducting a search on one of the criminals.

The officer was shot twice next to the Israeli military attaché's residence at 8:45pm.

The deceased officer was informed by security guards at a roadblock that a gang of three men on foot were seen exchanging a firearm near the envoy's residence.

The officer followed the suspects for 200m and stopped them for inspection.

As he was searching the suspects, one man shot him twice at close range killing him on the spot.

The thugs escaped without stealing anything including a firearm in his possession.

However, police say the gang might have been passing along the area without necessarily targeting the envoy's residence.

Operation headed by Nairobi PPO Benson Kibue is underway to trail the gang.

Two days ago, a gang of three robbed a Kilimani based CID officer of his firearm and cash in Kawangware estate.

The gang is said to have carjacked a couple and later shot dead the man.

The Lavington and Muthangari areas have been prone to armed attacks lately.

Last week, two men posing as CID officers raided a construction firm, SBI International Holdings and robbed the finance manager about Sh8million.

It is within the same area that Lands PS Dorothy Angote was carjacked early this year.
