Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo will on Monday hold his first meeting with all senior police officers from across the country.

The new police boss is also expected to be formally introduced to his juniors.

The meeting in Nairobi will discuss the force's preparedness as the country gears up to a historic General election in March 2013.

Also on the table for discussion is how the force will deal with organised criminal gangs, taming the persistent grenade attacks and the al-shabaab menace.

Upon his swearing in last week, these are some of the issues presented to Mr Kimaiyo which he needs to tackle with immediate effect.

The meeting will be attended by officers from both from the Kenya police and the Administration police services. It is also expected to discuss the working relationship between the two forces especially now that they are under one command.

Nairobi has recently witnessed a surge in carjacking incidents and robberies. In the last one week, over ten people have been carjacked.

On Saturday night, about thirty shanties were burnt in Mathare in a revenge attack following the killing of a resident. In Huruma, residents held demonstrations on Sunday over the rising cases of insecurity in the area after a local businessman was shot dead.

On Sunday, Mr Kimaiyo said that though a lot more had to be put in place they could not afford to wait any longer.

The police boss is still operating from the Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms at Bruce House and has no official uniform.

A committee will meet on Tuesday to decide on the nature of his uniform and to also approve his badge of rank.

Mr Kimaiyo said that the badge of rank had already been designed and was just waiting approval by the committee.

Last week when he went to Tana River, Mr Kimaiyo also met the leaders from the Coast. He is expected to visit other regions starting next week.
