  • Property tycoon revokes family members’ power of attorney on tape

A videotape has emerged in the Kirima family saga purporting to show the ailing tycoon revoking the power of attorney he had given to members of his family.

Some of property tycoon Gerishon Kirima’s children on Tuesday produced the tape which appears to have been shot in London where the former assistant minister is receiving treatment.

Flown out

Mr Kirima, who was flown out of the country last week by some of his children, is back in Kenya and has declared he wants to personally manage his businesses.

“When I was sick, I gave some people power of attorney to manage my affairs as I could have signed some things unknowingly. I now want to revoke all those orders,” he said in a clip provided by one of his daughters, Bishop Gathoni Kirima.

The former Starehe MP appealed to two Cabinet ministers and a permanent secretary to intervene and protect his property from changing hands.

“I never stole from anybody and I will not allow anybody to plunder what I worked so hard for,” he said.

However, when asked when Mr Kirima came back, where he was staying and where he had been taken for treatment, Bishop Gathoni declined to divulge any details.

She also would not say why she was not allowing Mr Kirima to speak to the media.

Mr Kirima’s sons and daughters from his first and second wives are embroiled in a bitter dispute with those from the third wife over the management of the vast estate.

A case is pending at the Milimani Commercial Court filed by Mr Kirima’s eldest son, Mr Wanjau Kirima, who wants to be allowed to jointly manage the estate with his father.

On Tuesday, Mr Kirima’s daughter Alice, whose mother, Teresia Wairimu is the third wife, expressed shock at the turn of events.

“My father would never say such a thing! Let me consult my mother,” she said on the phone.

Meanwhile, six people arrested during Monday’s riots at the Kirima’s property have denied taking part in the disturbance.

The six were arrested after they demanded payment for some construction work they claimed they did for the company.

Mr Bonface Misila Mwanthia, Mr Godfrey Imbwakha Lotiali, Mr Kevin Simiyu, Mr James Gichure Wangui, Mr David Mwangi Macharia and Mr Evans Wanjama Muraya were released on a cash bail of Sh5,000. The case will be heard on October 25.

Meanwhile, yet another case filed by wife Teresia is pending at the High Court in which she wants limited access to her husband.

The case will be heard on Thursday.
