Major hotels in Nairobi have a reason to smile as delegates arrive for the 56th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association conference set to begin next week.

The meeting, to be hosted by Kenya’s Parliament, is expected to attract more than 1,200 delegates from across the world. Kenya last hosted a similar meeting in 1983.

Some of the visitors started arriving on Wednesday for the meeting that officially starts on Monday. The arrival of the high-profile visitors has boosted business at five-star hotels in Nairobi due to their large numbers.

The hotels that have made reservations for the CPA participants say that the guests have occupied more than half of their total capacity in terms of rooms, with others reserving without confirmation of arrival dates.

Some of these delegates will also come with their spouses, which will, in turn, increase their numbers way above those expected to attend the conference.

Hotel Intercontinental is expected to host the highest number of parliamentarians that are estimated to be more than 200.

Speaking to the Daily Nation, officials from the hotel said that five delegates had already checked in while 215 more rooms had been reserved for the rest, who will arrive at different times.

Hilton Hotel follows closely, having 120 guests who have occupied a good part of their 280 rooms.
