Parliament has been asked to recall MPs to set up the Commission on Implementation of the Constitution.

Speaking in Nairobi on Sunday activists under the National Civil Society Congress said MPs should have set up the commission before adjourning last week. Parliament is scheduled to resume sittings on September 28.

In a statement read by their head Mr Morris Odhiambo, they said the absence of the commission has created confusion over how to implement the new law.

Frustrate the implementation

“The confusion will continue if the commission is not urgently established. The 90 day deadline not withstanding this is needed to forestall any designs to frustrate the implementation,” he said.

“Parliament must be recalled immediately to finalise these tasks,” he added. The members took issue with the Government’s move to set up the Cabinet Committee on Implementation of the Constitution saying it doesn’t have any space in the implementation process.
