Neglected by the State

The veterans said together with the beneficiaries of those who died in the struggle for independence, the government had neglected them.

KEAC replaced the Mau Mau War Council which was proscribed in 1969. Its members, who are over 90 years, thronged the court on Monday to listen to the proceedings.

Lawyers Sheila Mugo and Josphat Kimwere told Mr Justice David Majanja that the fighters were “arbitrarily jailed, detained, lost lives and property” and had never been compensated.

Mr Kimwere said, KEAC members and the beneficiaries were entitled to compensation since the government took over all the liabilities of the colonial masters.
