Secondary school heads in Nakuru have asked Education minister Mutula Kilonzo to address the delay in the release of funds to support free education.

They want the minister to take a short break from his campaign schedule to address the matter they say is urgent. (Read: Mutula faults Treasury for funds delays)

The headteachers, through the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet), warned that if the money was not released by Monday next week they may be forced to close the institutions.

“We are now calling on the minister, Mr Mutula Kilonzo, to address this matter without further delay as there is no meaningful learning that is taking place in our schools,” said the teachers through the Nakuru County Kuppet chairman, Mr Sammy Kambo.

He added: “Our members are spending sleepless nights thinking how they will manage their institutions with empty coffers, and may be forced to shut down the schools.”
