Former President Mwai Kibaki was Monday among the latest prominent personalities to condole with the family of former Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo at their Nairobi home in Gigiri.

Mr Kibaki termed the Senator’s death as “a big blow not only to his family and the people of Makueni but also the entire country which he served with distinction”.

The former President acknowledged that Mr Kilonzo had been “a brilliant” lawyer and outstanding politician and pledged his personal support to the family during the time of mourning and beyond.

The late Makueni Senator who died at his Maanzoni ranch on April 27 served in Mr Kibaki’s second term as Minister for Justice before moving to the Education Ministry.

Refused to speak
Monday, Judges Isaac Lenaola, Njoki Ndung’u and Kihara Kariuku also visited the family.

Monday evening, Internal Security PS Mutea Iringo condoled with the family but refused to speak to journalists.

Last week, MPs, senators and lawyers visited the family to offer their condolences and promised to give support. President Uhuru Kenyatta also consoled the family.

On Saturday, the family announced he will be buried on Thursday at his ancestral home in Mbooni, Makueni County.

According to his son Mutula Kilonzo Jr, the burial will be in Woyani Village in Utwangwa Location, the place the Senator chose in his will.

Last evening, the family held a fundraiser.
