NIS official carjacked in wave of robberies

A senior official with the National Intelligence Service (NIS) was carjacked on Sunday night in one of several robbery incidents reported in various parts of Nairobi city.

Mr Alex Muteshi was robbed of Sh160,000 and four ATM cards at Jericho Lumumba estate.

Five gunmen ambushed Mr Muteshi as he approached his residence and robbed him of his money and also forced him to reveal his PIN numbers for the ATM cards in his possession during the 8pm incident.

Buru Buru OCPD Hassan Barua who confirmed the incident also said that three members of the same gang had earlier carjacked Mr Simon Ndungu, his wife and a child while returning home at the Government Quarters along Jogoo Road at 7:30pm.

According to Mr Barua, the gang drove the victims in their Toyota Prado to a Coop Bank ATM outlet at Nacico Building where Sh18,000 was withdrawn.

They then drove to Lumumba Estate where they ambushed Mr Muteshi at his residence before robbing him at gunpoint.

Elsewhere, a retired colonel found himself in Kahawa Barracks hospital having lost his firearm, a Rolex watch, a mobile phone and Sh5,000.

Retired Colonel Gideon Kavandi was at Comfy bar in Nairobi’s Kahawa Sukari estate at 5pm on Sunday when when he met two women who needed a lift to Githurai estate.

However, he does not remember much of what transpired but found himself in hospital with all his valuables missing.

At Ruaraka, police are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed goods worth Sh40 million at the Stock Yard Power Complex.

Mr Joseph Mutisya, an official with the firm said electrical conductors and 80 electricity poles were destroyed in the incident.

It took nearly five hours for the contingent of National Youth Service, the City Council of Nairobi, and KK Security fire fighters to put out the flames.
