East Africa Community Permanent Secretary David Nalo has died at Nairobi Hospital following a battle with cancer.

The Ministry's Chief Information Officer, Michael Okidi, said that the PS had been admitted at the ICU for over a week. Mr Nalo passed on at 2am.

He was suffering from cancer of the Lymphoma, a type of cancer involving cells of the immune system called lymphocytes.

Lymphoma represents about 35 different cancers of lymphocytes.

Often, the first sign of lymphoma is a painless swelling in the neck, under an arm, or in the groin.

Lymph nodes or tissues elsewhere in the body may also swell. The spleen, for example, often becomes enlarged.

The late PS was due to preside over the inaugural celebration of the Mara Day at Mara River Water Users Association Office in Mulot town in Narok County Saturday.

The Mara Day is meant to create awareness on the environmental and social challenges existing in Mara River Basin, raise profile of Mara River Basin as an investment opportunity and chart the way forward for coordinated implementation of activities and interventions in Mara River Basin.

Due to the importance of the Mara ecosystem, the 10th Sectoral Council of Ministers for Lake Victoria Basin, held on May, 4  in Kigali, Rwanda, declared every September 15, the “Mara Day”, to coincide with the great migration of wildlife from Serengeti National Park in Tanzania to Masai-Mara Game Reserve in Kenya.
